While at XRS I worked closely with the Samsung leadership team to help define the Samsung Solution Exchange Program (SSEP). Our efforts produced an industry leading position where we successfully launched the co-branded NXT offering. This program produced significant momentum in the market and quickly became the largest deployed offering at XRS. NXT brought together the strengths of Samsung, Verizon & XRS to significantly change the transportation technology space as we knew it.
Details on the offering can be found at https://www.samsung.com/us/business/samsung-for-enterprise/safe-solutions-exchange/assets/downloads/XRS.pdf
Vice President, Enterprise Sales, Samsung Telecommunications America
I first met Christian Schenk at CES where we hatched the idea together of bringing Samsung devices into the transportation industry. Since that project conception we have jointly launched a product to the marketplace and have 25,000 devices deployed now, with hundreds of thousands more in the pipeline.
Christian has a very dynamic and visionary style. The thing I really like about Christian is his style – he’s very passionate about everything he does. He approaches everything with a ton of enthusiasm and has the ability to see beyond all the challenges that normally a lot of would get caught up in and never try to push beyond. He doesn’t let any of those things stop him and he’s always trying to innovate and question the way things get done. And he also instills a lot of loyalty and passion in the folks who work for him, which is great.
I would absolutely recommend working with Christian to my peers. I’ve enjoyed working with him myself, and look forward to my continued work with him. Anything he’s involved in I would gravitate towards.
Christian’s strengths are that he’s innovative, tenacious and resourceful. He’s a passionate business leader who has a tremendous amount of vision and love for what he does and he’s a strong motivator of others.
Motorola is the world leader in enterprise rugged mobile computing. Over the last 5 years, I've been privileged to work with many bright and innovative leaders from MSI. During this time I lead my organization to the MSI Pinnacle Club two years in a row. Currently I sit on the MSI Transportation PAC board, providing guidance and advice on how MSI can capitalize on the opportunities existing in the Transportation sector.
T&L Channel Manager, North America, Motorola Solutions
I’ve known Christian for about three years now. I’m the T&L channel manager for North America for Motorola, so Christian’s company is part of the portfolio that I manage, and their software is a significant market share leader in the space.
He’s very much an innovative thinker, and a creative guy. He’s got great vision all around – he doesn’t get stuck in the way things are today, and is creative about what the future could look like. He asks good questions, and has an innovative way of moving his ideas forward.
I would absolutely recommend working with Christian to my peers, and I do every day, both him and his company.
The guy is tireless, I don’t know when he sleeps! He travels a ton, he’s creative, has a ton of energy, and with all that he’s a great guy to work with and to have on your team. And he’s not a shy guy, he’s always happy to voice his opinion and be very engaged.
Christian is a creative leader in the markets that he serves, and I think he’s a visionary guy that adds value to any situation that we’re in. Whenever we have Christian involved in a joint opportunity or project, he’s always a value-add.
We’ve worked together to build out, with another partner, a go-to-market strategy for the fleet space, and I’m grateful for his involvement in that. I work with Christian to set strategy for how Motorola and XRS work together on an on-going basis, and he’s a great guy to work with in the go-to-market setting.
Back to his creativity and energy – Christian is the guy who throws out something that everyone thinks is outside the box, but he’s very good at connecting the dots and getting everyone to rally around his idea. He doesn’t do it just because it’s in left field, it’s connected, and he’s good at putting the “Christian spin” on things and can articulate his way through it.
The Wireless Association has provided me with the opportunity to meet some of the worlds most influential wireless industry executives. I currently represent the transportation industry on the Alliances Board of Directors. I have had the pleasure of working with Steve Largent, President and CEO of the CTIA where together we were able to deliver the first ever XRS XUE keynote address in August of 2012. I have forged many strong and meaningful business relationships through my time with CTIA and I continue to be a large advocate and contributor.
President & CEO, CTIA-The Wireless Association®
NFL Hall of fame
I first met Christian Schenk about a year and a half ago when he asked me to speak at his company’s user conference. Since talking about the wireless industry at the conference, we’ve jointly collaborated on several projects and ideas to influence the trucking industry to embrace wireless technology.
I enjoy working with Christian because he’s a very positive, very energetic, can-do type person. He represents his company well, and they could never argue that he doesn’t put worth the effort they’re requiring, because he’s all about effort!
There’s no mountain too high for Christian to climb, and he’s got the drive to climb every mountain out there. I would recommend Christian to my peers as a positive, energetic and motivated individual, and in fact have recommended him to several contacts which Christian has begun to work with. Christian is a great guy to know.
Christian is one of the wireless industries rising stars, and I have no doubt he will be a major force for years to come.
Over the last eight years I have worked closely with many different teams and leaders within the Verizon Wireless organization. They have been instrumental throughout my career in many of the projects I've spearheaded in companies from SelectComm through XRS Corporation. Most recently we worked together to launch a nationwide bill on behalf of (BOBO) program where they were intricate to the successful marketing of the XRS software and services. In a few short years we drove this channel to produce more than 10,000 subscribers, representing millions of dollars. More recently Verizon Wireless played a crucial role in the launch of the nationwide NXT program put together with Samsung and XRS.
Director – Alternate Channels, Verizon Enterprise Solutions
I first met Christian at one of our Verizon executive reviews with Xata, right after he had started working at the company. When he came on board, he immediately took point on our partnership, and it’s flourished ever since.
Christian is a subject matter expert in the transportation space. He’s organized, passionate and dedicated. As far as knowing the transportation and wireless space, he knows who to partner with, and knows how to navigate and really manage a partner well. He’s good at bridging the gap to help his partners work with others in the industry as well, for example, he helped us build better relationships with Samsung. He’s a great relationship guy, and always willing to help make introductions and suggest new people or companies that I need to meet.
I would absolutely recommend Christian to my peers, and I have as far as getting him connected with our organization’s leadership. I feel so confident that he’s an expert in the space that if anything comes up in transportation, he’s my first call, or I tell people that they need to talk with him.
Christian is passionate—he believes in the product and in innovation, and driving to performance. He’s very performance-driven, and he’s not going to work on something he doesn’t believe in. He’s an entrepreneur within a company. He’s really good at relating large-business key goals to small-business key goals. He takes ownership in an entrepreneurial way that helps the big guys feel comfortable and the small guys feel important.
We recently produced together a solution package with Samsung, Verizon and XRS called NXT. Christian really quarterbacked and pushed hard to get this bundled solution accomplished, and him and his team have been instrumental in filling the funnel and closing business for us with the package. I feel that he is a senior executive and trusted advisor for us and the industry.
Director, Global Partner Solutions, Verizon Enterprise Solutions
I first met Christian about three years ago, early in his tenure with Xata Turnpike. We were working together on a corporate strategy focused specifically on commercial telematics and development of bundled solutions including both our organizations. This partnership was more successful under Christian’s leadership, because he really focuses on the core customer and their needs.
Christian has a very refreshing leadership style. The trucking industry tends to be viewed as an older, non-early-adopter industry, and Christian comes into the world able to speak the language, and then brings that type of customer to a point where they can understand how our solutions benefit them. He takes a very positive approach to his customers and partners, and you can really see how both parties respond well to his refreshing approach.
I would definitely recommend Christian to my peers. You tend to try and surround yourself with good people both in your career and personally, and Christian is one that if I was building a team of my own, I would definitely pick him to be a part of my team. He is always ready to go and has a high level of energy around him—I’ve never seen him flat. His energy is contagious and really helps get you going, whether it’s presenting to a room full of people, or just in a one-on-one conversation.
Christian’s strengths are his contagious energy, and his diplomacy. He has the keen ability to deal with the internal challenges and politics of any organization that he’s working with, as well as with customers. He is a clear and concise communicator, and is diplomatic in every situation in a fair way.
He’s very approachable, and always willing to help—internally and externally alike. I appreciate that he’s always willing to roll up his sleeves and take on additional work and projects that I would normally not ask of someone in his position. But Christian is willing to go the extra mile and take care of every roadblock to ensure a project’s success.
Our latest joint accomplishment was a major partnership involving XRS, Verizon and Samsung. I was very impressed with how non-challenging the partnership was to organize, and the speed with which we were able to bring the partnered product to market. Typically in a multi-company partnership you run into a lot of corporate issues, but Christian was able to bring all parties to consensus quickly, and is continuing to ensure the success of the partnership now that it is out in the marketplace.
My first experience working with Sprint came along with the acquisition of the TurnPike Mobile software while at XATA Corporation. At the time of the acquisition TurnPike Mobile had 3500 active subscribers. From that point, I lead a team that grew the subscription count to the largest nationwide BOBO program to date representing close to 20,000 subscribers, and millions of dollars billed annually. Furthermore, Sprint also represents the majority of XRS's wholesale business with 40,000 subscribers. My active relationships within the Sprint organization stem up to the president where we mutually share an interest in the CTIA Alliance BOD.
Senior Product Manager, Sprint
I met Christian more than three years ago, shortly after Xata bought Turnpike Global. Since then we’ve been working on the Sprint/XRS relationship, keeping it alive and successful, and focusing on how to continuously position the two companies together.
He is an entrepreneurial and gregarious guy. He doesn’t seem like he ever meets a stranger – he’s extremely confident in everything that he does.
I would absolutely recommend Christian to my peers and anyone in the business. He’s got a pulse on the industry, both from a transportation vertical perspective, and the wireless space as well. Christian is well-versed with the vernacular within the industry.
Christian has many strengths, but among the top I would say he’s a strategic thinker, and he’s definitely innovative. He’s also very approachable – from an executive perspective, you face a lot of executives who aren’t very approachable, but Christian’s really down-to-earth. He understands what it takes to be an executive, but he hasn’t lost touch with what it takes to be in the trenches.
While working with the AT&T teams I was able to formulate the first "re-sale" agreement where AT&T would paper our product, not just bill for it. AT&T actively markets several products and we continually strive to bring new ideas to the offering. AT&T is the most recent channel I've worked to add to the portfolio of carriers at XRS and represents approximately 4000 active subscribers and growing.
Executive Director, Advanced Mobility Solutions, AT&T
I’ve been working with Christian Schenk for over three years, as AT&T is a customer of XRS. We re-sell the XRS product which we provide to our customers in conjunction with our product portfolio.
Christian has a lot of energy and passion. I always like collaborating with him, because you feel his passion and energy in any project that you work on with him. He also understands the customer needs very well. His strengths would definitely be energy, passion and focus on the customers.
I would definitely recommend working with Christian to my peers. When you work with partners, it’s especially important to achieve good results, and I feel that with Christian I can always rely on the best possible efforts and best possible approach. If something goes wrong in an initiative, he will always be the first to try and get it fixed, and get the project back on the right path. I can always rely on his professional business judgment to collaborate in the best way that we can, and win the marketplace together.
Christian works with a lot of intensity, has a ton of focus and determination to succeed. I’ve witnessed this first-hand as we’ve worked together to integrate the XRS solution into AT&T’s product portfolio. It was quite the journey, but Christian’s intense focus on the end goal got us there.
Founded in Princeton, New Jersey by Dr. Alan Kornhauser, ALK is the leading provider of GeoLogistics™ for highway systems world wide including PC Miller and CoPilot. While working with ALK, I negotiated a joint offering whereby, XATA was able to market an integrated product between ALK Copilot and our Xatanet offering. Each of the last four years, I have been asked to speak at the ALK technology summit on topics such as data analytics in fleet management and the effect of mobile device proliferation on the wireless spectrum and networks. In my most recent 2013 talk I addressed the impact of smart devices on commercial applications including transportation, along with the social implications of location based advertising, focusing on the impact users have over technology today vs yesterday.
While at XRS I was tasked with building a strategy to transition the company from their historic on-board computer/SaaS based model to a mobile application/SaaS based model that lived in the cloud. Under my direction we assembled the team needed to design a product and go to market from the ground up. By leveraging off-shore development along with existing and new partners we built a product that would change the fleet intelligence industry forever. With the launch of the XRS product and the re-branding of the company to match, XRS no longer sells their legacy products and is actively converting all of their customers. In my first two years at XRS I held the positions of VP of Product Marketing, VP of Product Management and Market Growth. In 2012 I was promoted to the executive team where I started as SVP, Product & Market Strategy and today hold the title SVP, Strategy & Business Development. In this position I am responsible for corporate strategy, Public Relations, Investor inquiries, Alliance, Business Development, Indirect Sales Channels, and all public speaking and media participation.
Chief Marketing Officer (CMO)
I have had the opportunity to work with Christian at Xata and now XRS for more than three years. Christian is an extraordinarily talented, high energy, results-focused leader. He has a highly collaborative style and an ability to bring out the best in the people that work with him. He is a creative problem solver — a talent that he blends with his deep industry knowledge to develop ideas and solutions that have had a significant impact on the success of the business of XRS.
Christian was the lead architect of XRS’s move to a mobile-based platform. More than just the roll-out of a new product, this undertaking was a fundamental shift in the business strategy of XRS. It required the right product design strategy, the right partners, the right marketplace positioning and the right market launch. Christian was — and remains — a key factor in the success of all phases of XRS.
He is an individual who shares his knowledge willingly with others, who takes time to mentor numerous employees and who has the ability to attract highly talented people. He is an outstanding leader with a track record of success and enormous potential. It is a deep pleasure to be a colleague of Christian’s and to give him my unequivocal support and endorsement.
I have spent the better part of my professional careers providing technology and innovation to the transportation, logistics & wireless industry. Here are a few references from my customers.
Executive Vice President & Chief Information Officer, New Century Transportation
I formally met Christian about three years ago at his office in Minneapolis, but I’ve known ‘of’ Christian for much longer through seeing him speak at numerous ALK conferences.
Christian is a very dynamic guy. He’s a great communicator, and he has the ability to drive his vision and really communicate that well to all different members of an organization. I’ve seen him speak in many different sized groups, and when this guy shows up, you’re going to buy his stuff – he’s great at communicating the vision that his company has.
I would absolutely recommend Christian to my peers, and I’ve already do so many times.
Christian is an industry expert when it comes to communication, especially in the wireless area. He’s able to really relate the wireless spectrum and history story to all kinds of people. He’s great at getting across where things are, where they’re going – and he has vision to think outside of the box on how to get from where we are to where we need to be.
He’s a great salesman, a really great marketer, and a smart guy. Everyone should listen to him, but once he gets going, you have to listen to him – there’s no stopping him!
Right now he’s in the middle of helping us with a major project, trying to get us through some hurdles that we’re facing. He stepped in at a more tactical level to try and get it back on track, and I appreciate that about Christian, that he can be this high-level, visionary guy, and yet jump down into the trenches with us when we need him to.
Overall, Christian is a dynamic professional in the mobile communication area – he’s terrific at it. And I’d absolutely go to him for answers about anything in this space.
Vice President, Logistics, Dean Foods
I met Christian several years ago when he started working at what was then Xata. He’s always been a very energetic, passionate, forward-looking guy. I think he’s able to look down the road and find a path to get to where he thinks the future is going to be – he’s very strategic in that regard. He’s also very well connected in the technology space, yet grounded in the onboard computer world, but he’s able to look across at the different technologies and see where the industry is moving and connect the dots to get there first.
I would definitely recommend working with Christian to my peers. I think he communicates well, he’s very forthcoming. And he’s customer-focused in the sense that he wants to put products and tools that are right for the industry into his customer base.
Christian is a visionary, he’s a strategic and passionate businessman. He’s a pleasure to work with – his personality is good for a futuristic, marketing type role. He’s easy to work with, he listens well, and he shows genuine concern for customer issues.
Senior Director, Delivery Operations, Sysco Corporation
I first met Christian at one of the XRS Xperience Board meetings that he pulled together for his influential customers, about two years ago. I would describe Christian as intelligent, outgoing, and having a very dynamic personality.
Christian is energetic and engaging—he has excellent communication and interpersonal skills. And more important from my perspective as a customer, he understands our business and what we need, and he does a good job of grasping that and integrating our needs into the business process at XRS. Especially with the new mobile solution, he’s making sure our needs are well represented and the functionality we need will be added to the new product.
I would absolutely recommend Christian to my peers. I’d recommend his dynamic personality, and his communication skills would be the reason behind my recommendation. He certainly can do a great job in front of my executive team, a Fortune 100 company, but he’s great in front of all levels throughout any organization.
Christian’s strengths would definitely be his business acumen, his interpersonal skills and his understanding of the market. He has a strategic view of the space of onboard computing and mobile tech in general—he’s forward looking and his strategic view helps integrate his business into our business.
Christian and I have accomplished many projects over the last few years together, but the biggest one is probably the new XRS mobile solution. He has been talking to us about what we really need to convert to that solution from our existing XataNet solution that we’re using—asking us what we need, but then taking our needs and priorities and re-prioritizing the software deployment plans to accommodate those needs. And being in close contact with many of his customers, both competitors and not, I know that that’s universal across the board for the companies that Christian works with.
